Tryon Road Force Main Replacement

October 16, 2025

Carolina Civilworks was called in by the City of Raleigh to perform an emergency repair on a failed 6-inch force main along Tryon Road. The failure required immediate response to prevent service disruption and protect the surrounding community.

The repair involved mobilizing crews within hours of the City’s call. By Monday evening, the force main had been placed on bypass to avoid spills, which required the installation of insertion valves and taps on the existing line. Approximately 1,000 feet of bypass piping was laid out along the roadway to maintain system operation during the repair.

The scope ultimately included the replacement of roughly 900 feet of damaged force main with new 6-inch PVC pipe, fittings, and valves, as well as the installation of future bypass connection assemblies. Because the line ran beneath a travel lane, one side of Tryon Road was closed during the repair. At the City’s request, Carolina Civilworks restored partial two-way traffic within days to reduce inconvenience to the public.

The project highlighted Carolina Civilworks’ ability to respond quickly and effectively to critical utility failures. With strong relationships, experienced crews, and flexible mobilization capabilities, CCI delivered an emergency repair that minimized impacts to residents and maintained uninterrupted sewer service.
